The U.S. Dollar weakened, with the USD index down 0.3% on the day at 102.73, following a weaker-than-expected U.S. July housing starts report. Monthly data released by the U.S. Census Bureau showed that housing starts in the U.S. decreased by 6.8% in July to 1.238 million units. This followed a 1.1% increase (revised from 3%) recorded in June.

The September Silver contract saw a slight increase. The settlement price on August 16 was $28.849 per troy ounce, up 1.52% compared to the previous session.

The October Platinum contract saw a slight decrease. The settlement price on August 16 was $962.4 per troy ounce, down 0.28% compared to the previous session.

The September Copper contract also declined slightly. The settlement price on August 16 was $4.144 per pound, down 0.18% compared to the previous session.
