At the close of trading on January 6, the S&P 500 gained 0.55% to 5,975.38 points, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 1.24% to 19,864.98 points. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged down 0.06% to 42,706.56 points.

Spot gold prices fell 0.2% to $2,634.27 per ounce, while gold futures declined 0.4% to $2,645.5 per ounce.

The rise in U.S. Treasury yields pressured gold prices. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note climbed to its highest level in over a week, making gold less attractive, while the U.S. Dollar Index dropped 1%.

Brent crude futures fell 0.27% to $76.30 per barrel, and WTI crude futures declined 0.54% to $73.56 per barrel. Earlier, a weaker U.S. dollar and heightened energy demand driven by winter storms had pushed crude oil prices to their two-week highs.

Oil prices eased slightly after consecutive gains, supported by optimism from China, the world's largest crude oil consumer. Over the weekend, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) reaffirmed its commitment to cutting interest rates and the reserve requirement ratio for banks "at an appropriate time." The central bank’s monetary policy direction remains focused on “reasonable easing.”
