According to a report from the Singapore Exchange (SGX), the average prices of TSR20 and RSS3 rubber traded on SICOM in August were USD 1.635/kg and USD 2.089/kg, respectively, representing a decrease of 6% and 9.7% compared to the previous month.

In August, rubber prices dropped to USD 1.603/kg due to weak demand from China, before slightly rebounding to USD 1.633/kg by the end of the month. This price increase was driven by prolonged concerns over supply shortages caused by adverse weather conditions in Thailand.

The total volume of rubber contracts on SICOM in August amounted to 272,335 lots (equivalent to 1,361,675 tons), a 21.5% decrease compared to the previous month but a 26.9% increase year-on-year. The average daily trading volume reached 11,841 lots (equivalent to 59,203 tons), down 35.1% from the previous month. The total open interest (OI) at the end of the month was 53,650 lots (equivalent to 268,250 tons), a decrease of 22.3% compared to the previous month.

TRS20 rubber options contracts on SICOM traded 430 lots (equivalent to 2,150 tons), with a total open interest of 190 lots (equivalent to 950 tons). All options trading volumes were concentrated in the nearest and next-month contracts.
